TPS61232: 5V input

Part Number: TPS61232
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS61230

Hi support team,

The TPS61232 has a fixed 5V output.
Does it work even with 5V input?
The input source is a 5V battery.

If it works, is it due to "Zero Duty Cycle Mode"?

Regards,
Dice-K

  • Hi Dice,

    It can work with VIN=VOUT.

TPS6123x is using COT control, there is so called "zero duty cycle mode", and hence can support VIN>=VOUT.

Here is the test result when VIN>=VOUT of TPS61230, which is adjustable version of TPS61232.

  • Hi Nathan,
    Thank you for your reply.

I believe "Zero Duty Cycle Mode" has the condition that VIN is less than "VOUT + 0.24V".
Is it not possible if VIN exceeds 5.24V?
In Figure 32, I am concerned because VIN is operating even if it is "VOUT + 0.7V".

    Best regards,
    Dice-K

  • Hi Dice,

I think 'VOUT + 0.24V' here, the VOUT means the real output voltage, not target output voltage. So it can support VIN > VOUT_target + 0.24V.

But be careful that VIN can't exceed 5.5V as ROC table shows.
