Need Alternate part for high current hot-swap controller LTC4238

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS25985, TPS25985EVM

HI TI,

I have a project that received the information from EOL in the mass production stage, I must choose to change the original design, the current use is 12V@80A, I want to know whether TI has a high current solution hot-swap / efus can be recommended?  (The available PCB space is 45mm*25mm) thanks.

BR,

Delun

  • Hi Delun,

Thanks for reaching out to us. Please have a look at TPS25985 and kindly share your feedback. 30 mm x 12 mm will be the solution size for 12V@80A design with two (2) TPS25985 eFuses in parallel. You may have look at the TPS25985EVM as well to know the solution size.

  • HI Avisheck,

    1. You would suggest to use two modules in parallel to make 80A, so if I lower the current to 70A, is there a chance to use 1pcs for design?

    2. Does this 30 mm x 12 mm contain the components needed for 2*TPS25985 and its surroundings?

    3. Can I understand that SWEN is used as the start of parallel control? How to ensure that the current is balanced in the case of parallel connection?

    Thanks,

    Delun

  • Hi Delun,

TPS25985 is rated for 60-A RMS current. Based on your thermal design current (TDC), the number of devices should be selected. Ultimately, the maximum device junction temperature reported through the TEMP pin should not exceed the recommended value of 125 ºC.

30 mm x 12 mm consists of 2 x TPS25985 eFuses and their surrounding components.

Yes SWEN is used to control devices in parallel. TPS25985 incorporates active current sharing mechanisms during startup and steady-state to ensure current balancing. Please refer to the datasheet for more details.
