Discharge Completion deactivation

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ78PL116

On a BQ78PL114S12 or BQ78PL116 system, what are the parameters that determine the exit from discharge completion, thus closing the discharge FET. The TRM only seems to describe how the DC (alert) bit is cleard.

  • Can anyone from TI answer this? Is the BQ looking for a charge current, a voltage rebound or something else to exit the discharge completion state?

  • After re-reading the Discharge Completion (DC) description in the BQ78PL116 TRM in conjunction with the Charge Completion (CC) description, I believe there is simply an omission. There should be an extra line at the end of the DC description:

    (c) The discharge MOSFET is closed

Can someone from TI please confirm this?

The 'Deactivation criteria / behaviour' is still not 100% accurate however, since if the current drops below the 'transition to idle current' before the 'FET activation time' elapses for either DC or CC, then the FETs are not closed, as they were never opened.

  • Hi Nigel,

Your point about the "discharge MOSFET is closed" as part of the  Deactivation criteria/behavior for the Discharge Completeion is correct.

We will look to incorporating that statement in the TRM.

    So it should read:

Deactivation criteria/behavior: If a charge current is observed, OR if the discharge current drops below the
Transition to Idle Current value before the Discharge Completion FET Activation Time elapses, then the
    following actions are taken:
    (a) Status condition for this event is cleared.
    (b) Discharge Completion FET Activation timer is reset.

    (c) discharge MOSFET is closed

    Thanks for the catch.

  • Hi,

I received the batteries after sales service,  the flag of DC and DC flag is set to 1.
    The RSOC is 0%
This occurs because the standby power consumption of the product is below the Transition to Idle Current.
    The battery is unusable!

    Did you do an update?
Is what I omitted the configuration of a parameter?

    Thanks
