If soft-start function is not needed, what to do with this pin? What will happen when floating this pin? Thanks.

Hello Francis,

You can leave the SS pin floating if you don't need to extend the internal 0.5ms soft start.

With the pin floating, the internal soft start ramp will be the only one controlling the startup time. You can add more time with external capacitor if you need to further slow down the ramp up.
