TPS25750: Device won't leave active mode

Part Number: TPS25750

Hello,

We are currently experiencing a problem where the TPS25750 will not leave active mode.

At least that is what we currently expect, since regardless of delay, the device consumes ~ 3-4mA of current.

This lines up with the active mode current into VIN_3V3.

We were expecting the device to switch to "Sleep DRP mode", and consume ~56uA of current.

I have confirmed that the EEPROM data is successfully transferred from our MCU.

The device will request and setup sink PDO2 (9V @ 3A) as expected.

Further, I have confirmed that the device is not experiencing any event that would prevent the device from leaving active mode.

I.e.

A couple of questions about this.

1.) Is the "delay period of time T" now setup as of "TPS25750 Application Customization v7.0.4.5"?

I have found two post's which suggest the device will never enter sleep mode:

See

e2e.ti.com/.../3997107

and

https://e2e.ti.com/support/power-management-group/power-management/f/power-management-forum/1124518/tps25750-tps25750-transition-to-power-save-mode/4189752?tisearch=e2e-sitesearch&keymatch=TPS25750%2520sleep#4189752

Is this expected to be the case for the foreseeable future?

Unfortunately at 5mA, the quiescent power consumption would be too high for our application.

2.) What is the effect of not powering PP5V on system standby and sleep?

Our device is configured as sink only and is not expected to negotiate any current above 3A.

Further, we do not have a 5V source on our device.

As such, we have tied PP5V to GND as suggested here:

https://e2e.ti.com/support/interface-group/interface/f/interface-forum/1105343/tps25750-about-ldo_1v5-pp5v-drain-pins-at-sink-mode-only?tisearch=e2e-sitesearch&keymatch=PP5V%2525252520TPS25750#

Would this have an unexpected side effect with the device entering standby?

Thanks in Advance

  • Hi James,

I will look into this and provide a response by the end of the week!

    Regards,

    Brandon

  • Hi Brandon,

    Any update on This?

    Thanks,

    James

  • Hi James,

    Thanks for your patience!

It seems in the latest GUI release this timer for entering idle mode for TPS25750 was missed and did not get implemented. I will raise this issue to our FW development team to make sure this gets implemented in the next GUI release.

As for the PP5V, grounding this in sink only operation should not have any affect on entering idle mode!

    Regards,

    Brandon

  • Hi Brandon,

Thank you for looking into this for me.

    Two further questions on this:

1.) Do you have an idea on a timeline for the next GUI release?

I can see that the last two releases were 7 months apart. Is it reasonable to assume a similar development timeline?

2.) Is there a value I can modify in the data array to enable sleep mode?

We are loading our device via I2C from an MCU, so modification of a value in the patch array is fairly easy.

    Thanks,

    James

  • Hi James,

    Please see answers below!

    1. It is really dependent on items driving GUI releases. It seems there are some items such as this one driving for a new release so I would next expect the timeline for a GUI release to be as long as the previous.

    2. Let me see how involved the FW is to see if this is something that can be done to the data array!

    Regards,

    Brandon
