TPS22925: Overload/Short condition

Is the TPS22925C current limited or thermally protected? What happens when I overload/ short the output of this part to ground? Potential application would be to power a chip that will draw about 200mA on a 1V rail. The device is connected in series with a 1V supply and the other chip; the 1V supply is capable of high current so it could damage the TPS part if the TPS output is shorted to ground.

Hi Steve,

The TPS22925C will not protect against a short to ground fault as it does not have short circuit protection or current limiting.

In addition, the TPS22925C device does not have thermal shutdown, however our thermal shutdown feature is intended for overcurrent and hot events; this does not cover a short to ground fault.

For a 1V rail, you'll be looking at the TPS22992S which has short circuit protection and suitable for Vin 1V-5.5V. Do note you will need an external supply to ensure Vbias is at least 1.5V and a external enable control which will turn the device on when ON>0.8V and off when ON<0.35V.
