TPS55289: Webench doesn't allow to use custom input

Part Number: TPS55289

Hi there.

I was trying to evaluate the TPS55289 for the following application:

  • Vin - 12V
  • Vout - (3.3 - 4.0) V, 4 A

I tried to set up such a design in the webench, but it won't allow setting anything beyond boost mode.

For example, the default configuration on the product page is (11-19) V in, 20 V 2.25 A out. I'm taking this configuration and starting to reduce V out. And it works till Vout reaches 11 V. At 10 V, webench says, "design update failed."

I'm curious if it's the issue with webench or the part number (maybe the current silicon revision has troubles with buck mode or something like that).

Kind regards.

  • Hi Vasyl,

Thanks for reaching out on E2E.

I also meet the same hint 'Design update failed - Design is unstable' when I change the Vout to 5V. It seems there is something wrong with the webench mode and l will contact our Webench team expert for this.

TPS55289 is ok for this application, may I know the application you use TPS55289 in? And what is the input voltage range?

    Regards,

    Bryce

  • Hi Bryce, thank you for the response. Then I'd calculate it in a spreadsheet and re-check the calculation when the Webench team produces the patch.

This is for the pet project, the input range is roughly (11-13) V because it's USB C PD 12V profile.
