BQ34Z100-G1: PROBLEMS WITH COMMUNICATION

Part Number: BQ34Z100-G1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76952, , EV2400, BQSTUDIO, BQ34Z100

Hello TI expert

I am working with the BQ76952 EVM and I built a BQ34Z100-G1 FG board that is connected threw I2C via EV2400 to mu pc.

i am able to connect to the bqstudio program but the communication is unstable and disconnects every couple of seconds.

I tries to update the FW but it didn't work because of the pour connection.

I have 3.9V measured in VREGN , 2.5V measured in VREG25 and 3.3V in SDL and SCL.

I noticed that the optimal voltage for VREGH is 3.6V and I have 3.9V but i cannot find the problem in my scheme.

I attached the scheme here and will be happy for help.

much regards.

  •     When the communication is available, please check a parameter FS Wait in Configuration class and Power subclass in DataRam, set this parameter to 0 to prevent the device to enter the FullSleep mode first.

I do not see any issue on I2C connection, please make sure there is not other devices hanging on the same I2C when communicating with EV2400.

Also please use oscilloscope to to monitor the I2C and REG25 pin see if the voltage on REG25 is stable and what happens on I2C when communication fails

Also please check if EV2400 is OK by communicate with EVM.

Try replacing another bq34z100 is also an attempt to identify the cause, please try to replace with bq34z100 on the EVM if the communication between EV2400 and EVM is OK

  • HI thank you,

I tried to change the FS to 0 but the communication keeps falling and i cannot do it.

The Voltage on REG25 is not stable I tried to make Pull ups OD 10k Resistors from SDL AND SCL to REGIN but it didnt help i also changed the Resistors R8 R9 R10 to 187K each to make the current higher but it didn't help also
I also changed the R14 to smaller Resistor according to the connections in the data sheet also didn;t help.

the voltage in REG25 is not stable i think this is the problrn but I dont know how to fix it I will be happy to hear some ideas

    much regards

  •     The REG25 should be stabilized in any case.

Please try using a 2.2uF capacitor see if there would be any improvement.

Please also check if any additional load to REG25, try remove that load see if the voltage can be stabilized.

If the voltage on the REGIN is not stable either, then this voltage should be stabilized in the first place, adding an addition FET in parallel to Q3 can be considered as well as using a lower value resistor for R22 as the backhander.
