UCC5870-Q1: ASC on primary side when INT COMM fault occurs

Part Number: UCC5870-Q1

Our UCC5870-Q1 chips will sometimes report INT_COMM_PRI_FAULT or INT_COMM_SEC_FAULT.  In these cases, an external controller will set the ASC_EN pin to Vcc on the primary side of UCC5870-Q1.  Will the secondary side still be able to control secondary side output?

  • Sorry the last sentence should read: Will the ASC still be able to control secondary side output?

  • Hi David, Good to hear from you!

Do you have a copy of our Feature Configuration Guide? (sluaak7) This guide provides some more detail on fault and ASC priority, and is available for request from the UCC587x product folder. In particular, page 3 is useful. (This document is NDA, so it needs to be requested from the product folder)

To answer your specific question, as long as the INT_COMM faults are set to no action (can still report to nFLT, but the FS_STATE_INT_COMM_PRI_FAULT and FS_STATE_INT_COMM_SEC_FAULT should be configured to no action), and no other faults are reported, the primary ASC_EN and ASC pins will control the output.

    I hope this is helpful!

    Regards,

    Daniel

  • Understood, thanks!
