BQ25170J: Battery Charging/Protection Circuit with BQ25170J, BQ298215RUGR, BQ27427

Part Number: BQ25170J
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ27427

I've been designing a Battery Charging Circuit with an additional Protection and Fuel Gauge circuit. I've used the BQ25170J for the Charging Part, BQ298215RUGR for the Protection part and BQ27427 as the Fuel Gauge. Now, I'm not quite sure how they fit together. First, I want to know if the PACK+ and Pack-on the BQ298215RUGR are the connectors for the system (load). Second, I attached an image of how I connected the 3 IC's together, as well as the schematic for each one. It would be nice to know if this configuration would work together and if not would there be any alternatives TI offers.
Thanks in advance,
Lucas

  • Hi

I can assist with BQ25170J review:

1.) Input and output capacitors should be 1uF and located near the device with good ground connection to pin 4 of device

2.) ISET resistor R15 looks like 50 ohms which is low, min recommended value is 375 ohms.

3.) Connect thermal pad to ground plane for thermal performance.

4.) TS pin 10k resistor looks good, VSET pin 27.4k looks OK

5.) /PG and STAT are OK, connected to out and add load to Battery during charging.

  • Hi,

Thx for responding. ISET should be 500 Ohm. The BQ298215RUGR splits GND and the Battery Minus point with a shunt resistor, but it's still right to connect the BQ25170J to the Battery+ and ground ? Should I open a new Ticket for the BQ298215RUGR related questions ?

  • Hi Lucas

Recommend posting BQ298215 question in a separate thread to get best answer.
