TPS25830A-Q1: TPS25830A-Q1

Part Number: TPS25830A-Q1

HI TI

The TPS25830A-Q1 is not DRP, right?
Under USB PD standard, TPS25830A-Q1 is DFP (source only), right?
If I control the TPS25830A from the Soc to which it is connected, it will never be a UFP, right?

■Back Ground

I am asking the above question to confirm that if the counterpart of PS25830A-Q1 is DRP or DFP, TPS25830A-Q1 is recognized as UFP (Sink) and Bus power may be supplied from the counterpart.

Regards

Moriya

  • Hi Moriya-san,

Yes, our TPS25830A-Q1 is DFP, and source only, do you want to use the client mode? right? And update the soc firmware through the laptop? right? Just like below picture show:

Our data switch will always on in the client mode, so just please make sure the laptop can communicate with the SOC. Thank you.

    Best Regards,

  • Hi Kuno-san

Here is what I would like to confirm

・Since the TPS25830 is a DFP, the TPS25830 is not supplied with V-BUS from the other device connected via USB Type c IF.

・Even if TPS25830 is set to client mode, TPS25830 is DFP, so it is not supposed to receive V-BUS supply from the other side, right?

    Regards

    Moriya

  • Hi Moriya-san,

Actually in the client mode, our VBUS will be closed, then you can use the external VBUS, what my mean about the TPS25830A-Q1 is only the DFP is that we don't have the inside CC pull down, and we always have the Isource in the CC pin, so we can not become to a UFP. But for the USB2.0 communication in the client mode, we can support it, because the DM&DP data switch is always on in this time, you can use them to support the USB 2.0, but you need to let your laptop enter into the Host firstly, and send the USB 2.0 message to the device. Thank you.

    Best Regards,

    Kuno
