Boost for APD Driver

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS61391, LM5157, LM5158

Hi expert from BCC,

I'm looking for a device that can boost voltage from ~5V to ~120V to drive APD. Now the typical solution seems to be boosting to ~40V (such as LM5157 / TPS61391) and use voltage multiplier (diodes + capacitors). I know for higher output voltage there's challenge on duty cycle. But are there any solutions or technology that can reduce the external diodes and capacitors?

What's our hero devices for APD driver (is it TPS61391?) or are we defining any new related devices? If it's not suitable to discuss online, please reach out to me via e-mail. Many thanks!

  • Hello,

Thanks for reaching out. Currently our recommendation is to use the LM5157/LM5158 or the TPS61391 adding the voltage multiplier. An alternative, depending on the customer's preferences, might be to use a Flyback topology with the LM5157/LM5158. Let us know if further support is needed.

    Kind regards,
    EM
