Hi Experts,

Our customer is going to use a Spartan 7 FPGA from Xilinx as the control device. For its power supply (1V, 1V8, and 3V3), He is considering the use of a PMIC instead of 3 converters. The PMIC will be supplied with an input voltage of VIn=12V and the estimated consumption of each output is as follows 0.7A@1V, 0.2A@1V8, 0.3A@3V3.

It would be desirable that the PMIC configuration would be done by means of external passive hardware (R,L,C) instead of Iprogramming by I2C/similar.

For that reason, He has seen on our website the device TPS652510. Could be TPS652510 suitable for the Spartan 7 supply?

In case not, we would appreciate it if you can suggest other PMIC/devices to supply the Spartan 7 according to his requirements.

Thanks for reaching out! TPS65261 will be a suitable device. 4.5V to 18V Input Voltage, 3A/2A/2A Output Current Triple Synchronous Buck Converter It has adjustable clock frequency from 250kHz to 2MHz, automatic power-up/power down sequence. TPS65261 for PSM mode and TPS65261-1 for FCCM mode.

May I know customer and EE? Do they have other requirement?

Also regarding TP65621, each buck can provide a maximum current of 3A/2A/2A. Could the maximum current be configured? We are asking you this because the customer's requirements of output current are lower than the maximum 0.7A/0.2A/0.3A and he thinks he could suffer from heat losses due to poor efficiency.
Please, could you clarify me this issue?

In addition, Is there a tool to configure/simulate the TP65621 according to the customer's requirements?

Yes, you could configure it as 3/2/2A. If you need higher efficiency at light loading, you can choose PSM mode (TPS65261) which provide high efficiency by reducing switching losses at light loads.

- Sorry for the misunderstanding. Customer requirement is 0.7A@1V, 0.2A@1V8, 0.3A@3V3. So he wants to know if he can configure 3A/2A/2A to 0.7A/0.2A/0.3A.

I have another doubt, PGOOD signal is an open drain output. When everthing is ok, it gives a high level. Which voltage does PGOOD provide? Is it referred to V7V?

Hi Gerald,

It is recommended to use a pull-up resistor between the values of 10kΩ and 100kΩ to a voltage source. You can also refer to user's guide recommendation.
