TPS7A92: Need higher current version with same footprint and pinout as TPS7A92

Hi,

We are using TPS7A92 in our project.

But during bringup of the board, we came to know we need higher current for the IC which is powered by TPS7A92.

So, please share part no. which supports higher current but has the same footprint and pinout as TPS7A92.

We are releasing the TPS7A96 this year which is the 2A version of the TPS7A94. We can ship samples now. Is 2A enough?

Hi Lalit,

I talked to Stephen and he was thinking you meant the TPS7A94 instead of TPS7A92. We don't have a P2P drop-in for the TPS7A92. It sounds like either way you'll need to do a board rev, so I suggest looking at the TPS7A53/4, which are 3-A and 4-A devices.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Actually, the current consumption is only slightly higher than 2A. Right now it is around 2.1A.

My question is: will TPS7A92 be able to handle this slightly increase in max rating for a longer period of time without any damage. Right now device is operational.

Hey Lalit,

The TPS7A92 can provide 2.1A. It does not enter current limit until at least 2.3A. Keep in mind that the output voltage may droop slightly at 2.1A as shown in figure 12. The voltage droop will probably be around 25mV at room temperature.
