TPS25750EVM: Charging external battery with eval board

Part Number: TPS25750EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25731

On page 4 of the user guide for the tps25750evm, it states that in order to connect an external battery, J5 must be removed, and diodes D2 & D3 must be removed or shorted. I have done this and the battery I connected does not indicate that it is charging via the USB-C port. I think it is acting as a source and not a sink, but I configured the 25750 to act a sink only using the GUI tool.

How do I charge an external battery using this eval board, and are there any restrictions to the size of the battery I can charge using it?

Thanks

  • Hi Caleb,

You will need to directly write to the BQ25731 register to configure the BQ part to charge battery.

Please refer to this thread here where a user tried using TPS25750EVM.

To my knowledge this EVM is not meant for charging battery. If you are looking for PD controller + BQ solution for charging battery, I recommend looking into this reference design.

    Regards.
