TLC59401: Short pulse generation

Part Number: TLC59401
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DAC63204, LP5861, LP5018

Hi Team,

Our customer is considering the TLC59401RHBR LED driver for their application. He would like to know if he can use it for short pulse generation. Please see the details of his inquiry below.

We have an application where we need to randomly turn the different outputs on and off very quickly.

If we only use current control portion of the IC, can we have an external switch to pulse the LED on and off? 10 to 1000s of uS range. How fast is the feedback of the current control portion of the circuit?

I am also looking at the DAC63204. I could have an external circuit to pull the feedback pin high to turn off the current output. How fast is the feedback on the DAC63204? ( I have posted this inquiry in another forum e2e.ti.com/.../dac63204-how-fast-is-the-feedback-on-the-dac63204)

The TLC59401RHBR has a BLANK pin. Should he use the BLANK pin for this application?

Regards,

Danilo

  • Hi Danilo,

    Nice to hear you.

BLANK pin is used to force all outputs off,if they only want to turn on/off different outputs separately, this pin may not useful for them.

Because this device is based on shift register,so all the outputs need to be configured with 1 serial data input,if you only use dot correction mode,1 serial data is 96bits long, and the frequency for serial data updating is depended on the frequency of SCLK.

Besides,I think some device which based on I2C or SPI maybe more convenient to configure each output on/off separately. If the current for each is less than 50/35mA,then LP5861 or LP5018 is also suitable for the application.

    Thanks!
