TPS65987D: GoToMin Process in Source Mode

Part Number: TPS65987D
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65987, TPS65981

Hello TI Support,

I was hoping to get some information on the process of sending GoToMin messages on the TPS65987/8 when in source mode.  The TRM lists a "GO2M" 4CC command in table 1-2, however, there is no where else in the document that describes how to use the command, what it actually does, or what is returned.  I looked back at the TRM for the TPS65981/2/6 and it has a detailed description of the command in section 4.4.2.  It also lists a "GotoMinActive" bit in the status (0x1A) register that is listed as a reserved bit in the TPS65987/8 TRM.

I guess I'm wondering if the I can use the GoToMin functionality on the TPS65987/8 the same way it worked on the TPS65981/2/6?  If not, should the "GO2M" command be removed from table 1-2 of the TRM?  If the TPS65987/8 doesn't behave the same way, is there any way to send a GoToMin message as a source?

Best regards,

Cory

  • The USB-PD spec defines the GotoMin Message as a control message that "applies only to those Sinks that have requested power with the GiveBack capable flag set in the Sink Request Data Object. It is a directive to the Sink Port to reduce its operating power level to the amount specified in the Minimum Operating Current field of its latest Sink Request Data Object." (Section 6.3.2) Table 6-5 of the PD spec defines the format of the message and that it can only be sent by a source.

It's behavior is the same as the TRM for the TPS65981/2/6. I will submit a request to have this updated in the TPS65987/8 TRM.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Conner,

Awesome, I was hoping it behaved the same as the TPS65981/2/6! Thank you for the prompt response.

    Best regards,
