LM5017: LM5169 Is not compatible with LM5017, False information

Part Number: LM5017
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5169

Hello ,

TI indicates that LM5017 is 100% compatible with  LM5169.

But it is not true because pin 4 in LM5017 indicated to link a resisitor to VCC while  pin 4 in LM5169 indicated to link a resisitor to GND.

is it compatible or not?

David.-

  • Hello David,

The devices do share the same footprint for the SOT package.

If you would want to share the same PCB design, you would want to have a different assembly variant where in the LM5169 case, a pull-up resistor is utilized in the if the PGOOD functionality is needed, or in the LM5017 case, a VCC cap to GND is populated.

You are correct in that the same passive components is not possible, as pin6 definition is different.

  • So, then,  You have to remove as soon as possible the description of  LM5017 indicating that LM5169 is

Pin-for-pin with same functionality to the compared device"

it is not " Pin To Pin compatible" and  has created a lot of trouble in our company

  • Hello David,

Sorry to hear about the problems.

I'll consult with the team to see what can be done to ensure mistakes like this do not occur in the future, through possible wording-revision.
