TPS25982: Is necessary to add TVS and Schottky for TPS259824 E-FUSE

Part Number: TPS25982

Due to TPS25982 datasheet recommnd to add TVS and Schottky in INPUT/OUTPUT side.

What are the different application such as TVS and Schottky?

Foe example :

TVS-> for clamp voltage...

Schottjy->for ?

How to calculate and select for our application?

Vin=12V I limt= around 10~15A

Hi Liao,

The TVS diode is for clamping the positive transients on the input side where as schottky diode at the output is to clamp the negative transient voltages on the output side. The transient voltages are generated during abrupt current interruption such as short-circuit event.

The EVM shows the part numbers for a typical 12V, >10A application. Please use those parts.

Can you explain more detail how it clamp the "negative " transient at output side.

Hi Liao,

When VOUT goes negative, output schottky diode will be forward biased and it will clamp VOUT to -VF.

Hi Kunal,

May i know which one condiction can induce negative transient at output side?

Which one condiction can induce positive transient at input side? such as Hot-plug then produce inrush current.

short at output-> positive transient at input and negative transient at output.

hotplug supply-> positive transient at input
