TPS54341: Operating temperature range and operating junction temperature range

Part Number: TPS54341
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMR51440

Hi Team,

Our customer would like to clarify the operating temperature range of TPS54341 and LMR51440. The operating temperature range stated in the product page of TPS54341 is -40C to 85C while the operating junction temperature range in the datasheet is -40C to 150C. Please refer to the screenshot below. The operating temperature range and operating junction temperature range are different.

However, for LMR51440 the product page and the datasheet shows the same operating temperature range and operating junction temperature range of -40C to 150C. Can you please clarify about these differences?

Regards,

Danilo

  • Hi Danilo,

    As we know,  junction temperature=ambience temperature+P_D∙θ_JA;

    P_D = Power loss in converter (W);

    θ_JA = Thermal resistance from junction to ambient (°C/W);

    I think the reason why operating temperature range of TPS54341 is lower than junction temperature is that taking power loss into account and this is how the converter actually works.

    For LMR51440,dattasheet don't take power loss into account, so junction temperature is equal to operating temperature.

    Thanks

    Colin
