TPS92520-Q1: Under what conditions will the high-side/low-side current limit threshold be triggered?

Part Number: TPS92520-Q1

Hi, Team

Hope you are doing well!

I have a question about our TPS92520-Q1

TPS92520-Q1 has high-side and low-side current limit, and I know that when output open circuit fault happens, the high-side/low-side current limit threshold may be triggered:

Beside this condition, will the high-side/low-side current limit threshold be triggered under other conditions?

Thanks & Best Regards

Jeff

  • Hello Jeff,

Yes, there are other times when either HS ILIM or LS ILIM can be triggered.  This can happen during really fast transients like shorts or a release of a short that has a lot of inductance.  Typically, LEDs in automotive applications are wired far away from the LED drivers using thin gauge wires that can have significant inductance.  If that is the case, the transient can be faster than the control loop as then the inductor current can hit HS ILIM or LS ILIM depending on operating conditions, component selection, and other variables.
