TPS65987D: Tethered Cable CC Configuration

Part Number: TPS65987D
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65987

We're developing a device with the TPS65987 and a tethered USB cable.  We hooked up the CC signal in our USB cable to the CC1 pin on the device.  What should get hooked up to the CC2 pin on the TPS65987?

Best regards,

Cory

  • Hi Cory,

May I know how many CC lines are in the tethered cable? Does the tethered cable respond SOP' messages?

    Regards

  • Hi Tommy,

The cable has 1 CC line going through the cable.  Honestly, I'm hacking some stuff together for a quick prototype.  We chopped a USB cable in half and directly connected the cable to our board (VBUS, GND, and CC).  That's our "tethered cable" for now.  I believe the other end of the cable has an e-marker in it that will respond to SOP' messages.

    Best regards,

    Cory

  • Hi Cory,

If there is an e-marker responding SOP' message there should be 2 CC lines in the cable because 1 CC line will turn into VCONN and the other CC line will be handling the PD communication.

However if there is only 1 CC line in the cable my guess will be there are chances that 1) e-marker not powering up or 2) no PD communication.
