TPS23753A: Grounding

I'm working through a design based on the TPS23753A. My design will not have an Earth ground connection. Where do I reference the Bob Smith termination from the primary side of my LAN transformer? To the TPS23753A pin 6 (RTN) path?

Hi Patrick,

It is not recommended to set the Bob Smith termination refer to RTN.

You can set the Bob Smith termination refer to the chassis GND if possible.

There is no Earth or chassis GND. There's the isolated area (ISO GND) where the TPS23753A is operating, then a local GND on the other side of the TPS23753A's transformer. So in this instance where would I tie the recommended Bob Smith Termination that is on the primary side of the Ethernet/LAN transformer?

Hi Patrick,

You may consider to leave the Bob Smith termination's GND a dedicated ground in this case. Put a polygon in the PCB layout to short all these Bob Smith termination's GNDs.
