BQ24075: Battery inflating

Part Number: BQ24075

Hi Team,

Can you have a look at the following customer inquiry, please?

We use the BQ24075 and charge a Lipol battery with it. 3.7V 1300mA. Final charging voltage 4.2V. Every now and then it happens that the Lipol batteries inflate which is a considerable fire risk for the user. We have made various tests in this context, but we do not know where the problem lies. However, we were able to determine that the problem occurs when the user briefly activates our device (hand scanner) and then puts it back on the charging station. See the picture below [Discharge/charge current over time]: Here, at least in my opinion, an "overload" occurs again and again. The full battery is additional capacity to the full battery, I assume.

Thank you,

Franz

  • Hi Franz,

Most likely what is going on is that the brief usage/activate of the scanner is causing the battery to relax/discharge enough that this triggers a recharge.

Is the data plot that is sent the current? Are you able to monitor the battery voltage when this happens?

    Best Regards,

    Anthony Pham
