DC/DC controller for +/- 5V 40A--PTH12040WAD?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PTH12040W, PTQA420050

Hi,

I need to generate a positive/negative power supply, +/-5V, with a current capability of 40A.

Can I use a buck controller with external switch in order to realize a buck-boost for the negative power supply? If it's possible, could you suggest a TI controller to use? (only basic features are required).

Another question: can PTH12040WAD be used to generate -5V?

Thank you.

Best regards,

Stefano Vilardi

I can only address the PTH12040W and negative output voltage. This module is only designed for +output voltage .  We do not have any modules which generate _5V at 20-40A from a 12V power source.  I suggest you search  for an isolated converter for this  buck boost application.

  • Another comment. If there is 48V available, a 100W PTQA420050 isolated converter 20Amps can be configured for either positive or negative Vout at 5V . Ground the  +Vout terminal and (-) vout can be the source for -5V.
