What is real RMS current rating of CSD95xxx (CSD95480RWJ and CSD95490Q5MC)?

The brief datasheet is not clear.

Both devices are showing 70-A/75-A continue current rating.

But TI support said that,

1. 270A is 45A per phase. This is below our continuous rating but still above the RMS rating. This is probably what has caused the failures.

2. On the datasheet, continuous is measured with Ton = 500us. RMS is the true continuous current rating of the device.

The RMS of the device is 25A(95480) and 30A(95490) and please use this number as guardband

Can you explain the statement above in brief datasheet of 95490?

Is it continuous current rating over the time? What is a difference between RMS current rating and this?

Hi,

Yes, I understood that the RMS value should be used on the application.

I need to understand what does mean the statement of "75-A Continuous Operating Current Capability".

It's very different than RMS current rating(30A).

If PowerStage is running at 40A-50A continuously over the time, what is happening on PowerStage?

RMS is the same as TDC current and you can not let the power stage continuously running over RMS value.

Hi Yihe,

If the power stage is running over RMS current, is it going to be failed? If yes, is it burnt on High-side?

we do not recommend over RMS to avoid any issue.
