TPS2592AA: Asking for TPS2592AA design review and suggestions

Hi Team,

Customer followed old design with TPS2592AA. Vin is 12V. current limit is 2A.

Customer need to support effuse output pin short to ground function in new platform.

 

However, customer did output short ground test and customer found TPS2592AA cannot output anymore even power cycle.
Would you please help review  this question and provide your comments?

 

If TPS2592AA cannot support short to GND function, is TPS25981 an good option?

    Hi SHH,

    We will definitely recommend using latest generation device like TPS25981. 

    Regarding TPS2592AA, it does have short at output protection. 

    Can you share these details ? : 

    1. Schematic?

    2. How was short circuit test done? 

    3. Did they use a wire to short?

    Device can latch up due to negative transient on OUT side. They will need a clamping device like schottky diode at output.
