AC DC Converter IC selection

Hello together,

I'm a student and designing my first AC/DC converter. Now, I'm searching for a suitable IC to regulate the output voltage. The specifications of the converter are:

  • 230V AC Input 50Hz
  • 18V DC Output
  • 30-40A Output current

Because of the power of 540W-720W, I thought about a push pull, halfbridge or LLC converter. Which topology would you recommend and which IC would be suitable to start with?

I hope you can help me.

Best regards,

Paul

  • Hi Paul,

I think the LLC topology could be ideal in this application. PMP11064 is a reference design that is about half of the peak power you require but could be a good starting point. Also have a look at our UCC25640x series. This integrates a lot of functionality and while the EVM only supports up to 180W, it too could be a good starting point for you.

I hope this answers your question.
