BQ76952: Sodium Ion Cells

Part Number: BQ76952

Can a bq76952 be used in a sodium ion battery bms? I know it will need custom settings and I will be controlling with a micro-controller. I was just wondering if anything would prevent this from working.

  • Hi Jonathan,

Our battery monitors are not strictly dependent on the battery cell chemistry. The device measures and reports back the cell voltage and current to then take action autonomously or by a host processor in the event of a safety fault.

The main thing to consider is the minimum power requirement of the device itself to operate properly, please refer to the device datasheet for more details. Do keep in mind that this device has customizable registers for setting a wide range of desired threshold values for specific protection features.

All that to say, yes it should work with sodium ion batteries but careful consideration and testing should be done when implementing.

    Best,
