LM5156-Q1: how can I disable boost converter let it Vout = 0V?

Part Number: LM5156-Q1

Hi team,

Thanks for your support always.

In this case LM5156-Q1 is supplied power to sensor that Vin = 12V to Vout = 18V. Since our customer system has a request need < 0.1mA when system is standby. If I disable sensor still have ~10mA Quiescent current at sensor. therefore customer would like to shut down the boost to meet the request.

As I know that boost can't disable directly because of it architecture [mosfet open(Duty = 0%) -> Vout = Vin]. Only way I can think is add switch at Vin/Vout to disconnect the power rail. Do you have any idea to let boost stop providing power?

BR,

Jimmy

  • Hello Jimmy,

Thanks for reaching out to us via e2e.

As you state yourself, the Boost stage itself cannot provide any means of disconnecting the load.
Therefore, the only option is some kind of series switch which will allow you to disconnect it.

    Best regards

    Harry
