TPS54360B: transient load limit

If we design a TPS54360B for 2.1A , 3.1Vload at peak, how can I make sure the buck will be stable if the load transience is at 10Khz from max to min on the load side.

Also the input voltage is 26-48V and the switch frequency is about 300Khz or same as the simulation that can seen on the work bench

Hi George,

Apologies for the delay, I was OOO. You may use the TPS54360 calculator tool in the TPS54360 Design & Development portion of the product folder to assess the stability of the design. Usually, a smaller inductor will allow for a faster bandwidth.

Hi Richard, thanks for the information. What would you recommend the head room that you would need on the cross over frequency to the transient load frequency.

Hi George,

I haven't had much experience in looking at the head room needed on the crossover frequency relative to load frequency. However, if I had to give a value, I say aim for a headroom of half a decade or so. I did find a paper that you may use for further study.

In my designs, I follow an assumption that can be used for calculations which ignores slope compensation effect, and assumes the crossover frequency is between the modulator pole and ESR zero, and that the ESR zero is 10 times greater than the modulator pole.
