TL494: DC-DC Synchronous Buck Converter Vin-60V, Vout-15V, 20A.

Part Number: TL494
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC27211

Hello,

This is CLsaini from India.

I am working on DC-Dc Buck converter Vin-60V, Vout-15V, 20A.

I am using TL494 as PWM Controller. I want to make synchronous buck converter using TL494. But iam getting confuse that how can i drive Lower side mosfet and Upper side mosfet.

Below are circuit of TL494 MOSFET driver High side & Low side and Power section of converter.

Please suggest me how can i connect upper side & lower side mosfets to drive.

  • Hi,

You can use UCC27211 high side and low side gate driver.

    Regards,

  • Hello Sir ,

    Greetings of the day.

Thanks for your relay & I will try your suggestion.

I have few confusions, could you solve them :

    1. Could you confirm that we can make a synchronous buck converter on TL494.

    2. I made a synchronous buck converter circuit using TL494, in which the high side mosfet is not switching, but low side mosfet is switching and the output of the circuit is 3.5Vdc at Vin 45Vdc. But I set the divider at 14.5V to get output 14.5V.

    3. the dead time between high side & low side mosfet switch is 1us.

    4. Could you confirm the minimum &  maximum dead time between two mosfets.

    Thanks

    CLsaini

  • Hello,

There are two PWM outputs of TL494, either 180 phase-shifted or the same phase. But Buck needs a complementary PWM between top and bottom switch. Actually, I don't think TL494's two outputs can drive both top and bottom FET. You may use one output, and then choose a gate drive which has a single input, but has two outputs. Two outputs are complementary.
