BQ40Z50-R1: BQ40Z50-R1 shutdown query

Part Number: BQ40Z50-R1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ40Z50

Hi

I have a query need your help.

How long is the fastest time for bq40z50 to enter SHUTDOWN? I set the SHUTDOWN time and MOS OFF TIME to 1S, but it takes 6S for the status position after the MOS is turned off.

If the status position is not set, it cannot be recovered even connected the charger. Is this normal?

When I set the SHUTDOWN time to 25S, even if the charger is connected, it will still enter the SHUTDOWN mode. After the battery status set, the charger can be activated and charged continuously.

Waiting for your reply.

Thanks

Star

  • Hello Star,

If there is voltage on PACK pin the gauge will stay awake, I'm not sure the type of charger being used or what voltage it applies to the PACK+/- on the gauge.

It's not recommended to set both the shutdown time and FET off time to the same value, you want the voltage on the PACK pin to be lower than the shutdown threshold otherwise it will not go to shutdown.

    Sincerely,

  • Hi Wyatt

    Thanks for your reply.

The problem is after the IC receives the SHUTDOWN command and starts executing it, it will take about 5 seconds until the execution is completed.

    Attached the gg file.3125.IEN211GA-X2-20230419.gg.csv

    Please help check it.

    Thanks

  • Hello Star,

Is this when the execute the command twice to immediately enter shutdown? OR with the shutdown delays? Please check to see if sending the command multiple times speeds up the sequence. Also ensure that the voltage on the PACK pin is below the Vstartup threshold and charger present threshold to make sure the gauge will go to shutdown faster.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller

  • Hi Wyatt

    Thanks for your reply.

The customer only send the shutdown command once, and need 6s to enter the shutdown mode.

    Please see the scream video.

During this 6S, if plug in the adapter to charge and it will not be activated. The chip will still execute the shutdown command.

    Please help check  it.

    Thanks

  • Hello Star,

How you you actually determining the 6 second delay? Just by checking the register may not be a good method since there are delays within the GUI to display, you should look at power consumption of the gauge if possible.

I don't believe the gauge will be able to enter shutdown mode in 1s, it will most likely take at least 2-3s in order to fully shutdown after the command is received.

The gauge will remain active after the command is sent and the voltage is high on PACK, if you remove the voltage on PACK it will then go to shutdown, it is essentially waiting for the conditions to be valid.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller
