BQ40Z80: Full charge capacity degregation

Part Number: BQ40Z80
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO

hi

we are using BQ40Z80 in our Li-ion battery packs

we had several designs but the phenomena of Full charge capacity degregation we see in all the types,

the application is robotic and the robot is always working between 15%-85%, once in 50 cycles he goes to full charge and rest,

we see that after even 30 cycles the full charge capacity cuts to 70% and this affect on the work time

I attached .gg file for one of our batteries,

Are the known issues?

are there any issues that we don't do right?

is there any way to pix battery like that? any command or something?

maybe we can schedule with a TI expert on that issue?

  • Hello Netanel,

If you have a TI FAE you work with I would talk with them to schedule times.

I would need to see the logged data from the cycling tests if possible to determine what is occurring, or minimum of a short log file from BQStudio after the testing and before the testing so I can see the status of all the registers along with the .gg file from before and after. It looks like your .gg file if from the golden image since I see update status is 0x02 which indicates the algorithm is not running but it is fully learned.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller

  • I didn't have FAE support if you can contact me to him it will be great,

indeed this is the file from the manufacturer after learning, I sent this file , that if you can go over the definition and see if there is something that is configured not correctly thanks

to send senf now log file before and after cycling will take so much time... do you know what can cause this phenomenon?

  • Hello Netanel,

It's not possible to determine the reasons without any data, there are multiple reasons FCC may be decreasing which is why we will need to analyze more logs to see why. The .gg file only from the golden image does not provide enough information.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller
