I saw that d/s recommends to use external bootstrap diode and 20 Ohm resistor. But there is application circuit does not have this bootstrap circuitry.
Is this necessary? and what's the benefit of this external bootstrap?

Thank you for reaching out! Yes, the 20-Ohm resistor and external bootstrap diode are required. The external boot diode is meant to help with startup conditions, and also assists with charging Cboot when forward biased and preventing Cboot charges flowing back to VDD when reverse biased.
