LM3409: run LED strings in Parallel?

Part Number: LM3409

Datasheet did not mention it nor denying it, so I'd figure ask here.

I wanted to use LM3409 to drive 2 LEDs strings in Parallel, each consist 2 LEDs in series. This is because Vin is only 12V. Can LM3409 do this without any problem? Will it effect how to calculate Rsns and Inductor values as if in series? I wish TI still has WEBENCH for LM3409 that saves tons of time to figure this out.

  • LM3409 delivers constant current for the load. User need to evaluate load character and spec to decide if the device can be used for application. For example, do you expect to accurately control and dimming each string, LED diagnostics, load current tolerance spec etc.

TI provides PSpice tool for LM3409 evaluation, which can be download from TI website.
