TPS65988EVM: Error when trying to re-flash EVM FW (Recovery)

Part Number: TPS65988EVM

Hello,

I am trying to re-flash my TPS65988 EVM back to its original state using the re-flash EVM firmware button. However it seems that I run into an error when I do this.

  • When I run this command EVM should be flashed with firmware that matches the "out of the box" firmware, is my understanding correct?
  • Its not clear to me what the error means, does TI know what could be goin on here?

Thanks,

Matt

  • Hi Matt,

    Thank you for reaching out!

I also encountered the same error. But there is another way to achieve this:

1- Go to new project ---> select the TPS65988

2- Go to Binary --> Flash Erase (This should return successful)

3- Go to Binary --> Flash from Current Project (This may say that the region offsets are invalid but click "OK" and this should return successful)

Also, we have a newer release of the GUI (6.1.4): https://www.ti.com/tool/TPS6598X-CONFIG

Please let me know if this works!

    Best Regards,

    Aya

  • HI Aya,

Thank you for the help here. I suspect that there is an issue with my board itself. After reflashing the FW like you described I can see that the VBUS LED for port B lights up when I mate a usb drive to the usb-c receptacle but port A doesn't show the same behavior. Looking at the CC pins for each port, port A is always low and port B seems to be showing the CC logic.

I measure 80ohms to ground on the port A CC pin as well.

Do you think there is a HW issue here?

    Thanks,

    Matt

  • Hi Matt,

Let me look into this further and get back to you early next week.

    Best Regards,

    Aya

  • Hi Aya,

I ordered a second EVM and I have no issues with flashing the device or connectivity with either of the USB-C receptacle.

    Thanks,

    Matt
