BQ78350-R1: calibration problem with BQ78350 AND BQ 76930 AFE not wake-up

Dear TI Team,

I have use a 24V BMS using which included ICs are BQ78350,BQ76930 and BQ769200. 24V voltage obtain from 6S1P li-ion battery pack.

when i communicated with EVM2400 module with BMS and see the parameter in BQ studio software in my PC.

I also set all parameter using BQ 78350 technical reference and follow guidelines of BQ studio and EVM procedure set up.

whenever i connect battery pack with BMS board, i got an error is Over Temperature issue and SMBUS communication break.

we also calibrate temperature, current and voltages with resistive load. but same error display on BQ studio.

I have insert some snapshot ,pls look at this and suggest best solution.

It looks like temperature is not calibrated correctly. Calibrate the temperature using ambient temperature after the battery is connected

Hello Shirish,

I have calibrate temperature correctly using room temperature. same error are display in BQ studio.

Hello Dhaval,

Try using the latest version of bqStudio. It will be best to uninstall and delete/rename c:\ti\batterymanaagementstudio, then do a fresh install

I have reinstalled BQ Studio and clear old preinstalled files , start with new same error are display.

Hello Dhaval,

I think your gauge is going into shutdown mode from voltage, it may not be directly related to the BQStudio version, but it is always best to use the test version.

Make sure the correct number of cells is programmed and the voltage for each cell is not too low.

Hello Wyatt Keller,

how to recover gauge shutdown mode from voltage, already gauge is meet with requirement. when i charged battery pack connected to board, its not recover in normal mode. also we make sure about programing.

Hello Dhaval,

From your screenshot it shows all cell voltages are 0 and the Voltage() is also 0V. The registers show that SDV bit is set which indicates voltage based shutdown.

All the criteria to enter and exit shutdown are outlined in the TRM:

Hello, Wyatt keller,

i understand your brief answer. i have update in BMS.

Now let us consider another case when battery pack is fully charged and pack voltage is sufficient to drive system, in that case AFE is not wake up.

how to enable AFE ? and same scenario create as temperature indicate 221 deg.C then how to bring in normal mode.

If in BQ studio auto ship mode change from 1440 min to 60 min, what happened ?

could you please educate me about auto ship mode working.

Hello Dhaval,

Set the DA configuration register correctly to fix the temperature issue.

Auto ship time is the time after which bq78350 will go into shutdown power mode. AUTO_SHIP_EN must be set to 1 to use this feature. The device returns to NORMAL mode when voltage at PACK pin > VSTARTUP.

Thank you for clarify auto ship mode.

I m able to change auto ship time in other BMS and its working properly. I have set DA configuration register correct and fixed my temperature issue. all registers are set as per recommended then after same issue arriving

my conclusion is that if AFE indicate 221 deg.C temperature , ICs internal thermistor damage and AFE not working. so changed new AFE in my BMS now its work.
