UCC28950 EVM board efficiency improved

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC28950

we have a important custom in china, they need evaluate efficiency of  UCC28950EVM, and we hope to improve efficiency in half load of UCC28950 EVM board from 95.5% to 96.5%, custom want to use UCC28950 in sever power ,and need acquire platinum efficiency.

it is requirement (DC-DC) of custom indetail.

Power range: 650W,800W, 1200w

Input voltage 390VDC

Outputvoltage: 12VDC

Efficiency : over 96.5% in half load.

It is requirement  for DC-DC in detail, we need to improve efficiency of our demo, and custom evaluate the possibility to use UCC28950.

  • Hello Rodger,

To improve the efficiency of the EVM you could try reducing the switching losses.  I would start by reducing the switching frequency 10 to 15%. Start by power the EVM up at light loads and monitoring the transformer and inductor current to make sure they do not saturate.  Note you will also have to adjust the DCM comparator to ensure the synchronous rectifier turnoff before the increased inductor ripple current goes discontinuous.  You will also may need to increase the output capacitor bank to handle the extra inductor ripple current.

The other thing that you can do to reduce conduction losses it use FETs with a lower Rdson.  The biggest efficiency improvement would be seen by finding better FETs for the synchronous rectifiers.
