TPS61500: Single Li-Ion Battery White LED Torch

Part Number: TPS61500
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM3410,

Hello,

I'm designing a portable LED torch lamp, as reported schematic; main requirements are:

1. High efficiency: the battery should discharge to 3.2V (or 3.3V...) before shutdown;

2. Good current regulation during the entire battery discharge cycle, to mantain LED's correct color temperature.

I have some questions for you experts...

1. Does the schematic looks good? Would you suggest me another IC, like the LM3410, other components or another circuit topology?

2. May I use a D1 diode with less Vr (now 40V), to reduce Vf?

3. How much is the (estimated) efficiency of the above circuit? And TPS61500 power dissipation?

4. Help me to calculate R4 value... By your knowledge, for this application, what is the most efficient frequency to use?

5. I think I've already self-answered to me ("no"), but is it possible (by making modifications / component exchange etc.) to drive all the 36 LEDs in parallel? That would mean Vf = 3.0V and If = 1.3A .

Thank you very much for your attention, best regards.
