BQ51003: Charge rate

Part Number: BQ51003
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ51013, BQ25120A, , BQ25100, TIDA-00318

Hi Team,

I have a question regarding this device.

I would like to know what is the charging current range of BQ51013/B? Also, I plan to use BQ25120A with BQ51013/B for a 3.7V, 200mAh LiPo battery. The datasheet appears to be a match. However, I'm not sure about the 200mAh capacity. does the battery capacity matter? or it does not matter as long as the chemistry match?

Thanks!

Regards,

Marvin

  • Hi Marvin

The BQ51003 is a Wireless Power 5V Power Supply designed for max output current of 500mA, set by ILIM pin.  As a power supply the min current is 0mA.

Unit can be used to supply a battery charger IC, see TIDA-00318. This design uses the BQ25100 charger.  But the BQ25120A should also work in this configuration.

I'm not sure about the 200mAh capacity. does the battery capacity matter?

The charge current is normally expressed as a percentage of battery capacity.  Capacity (C) = 200mAh, and charge current is 0.5C or 100mA.

or it does not matter as long as the chemistry match?

The charge current would need to match recommendation from data sheet.  Higher charge currents could damage the battery.
