TLV61048: Magic smoke released

Part Number: TLV61048

Hi guys,

The following is the relevant section of my schematic:

When the TLV61048 gets 5V, it releases smoke.

The issue can be reproduced when the circuit only contains the TLV61048 and the NRS5020T3R3NMGJ inductor. Only VIN, EN, GND, and SW are connected. FREQ and FB are unconnected. See the following breadboard:

Thanks for your help in advance!

  • Hi Laci,

the FB pin cannot be left open.

If there is no voltage back, the compensation will come to minimum and output minimum duty.

this will lead to a extreme high level SW voltage and cause the device fail.

The Initial failure may also result from this.

The PNP could be shut down and causes FB voltage delay, then the SW is overvoltage.

you can reconnect the R43 to the emitter of Q3 and have a look.

    Best Regards

    Fergus

  • Thank you very much for your help, Fergus!

You're completely right; connecting R43 to the emitter of Q3 solved the issue.
