LMR54406: Ripple/Noise Measurement

Part Number: LMR54406
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS54540B,

Customer would like to know how to select the bandwidth setting of the scope when ripple/noise is measured. Is it related to the switching frequency?

Is there article to guide this measurement? thanks.

TPS54540B(Fsw=500KHz)

LMR54406 (Fsw=1.1MHz)

Brian

  • Hi Brian,

I've linked a useful post on measuring ripple voltage on the output of power converters here. This will guide on the best physical setup to measure the ripple, with a very tight loop between VOUT and GND on the probe. I recommend pigtail or coaxial methods. Usually I set the oscilloscope to AC coupling in order to disregard the DC levels and then add a bandwidth limit of 20MHz to really obtain a clean signal without noise.

    Regards,

    Henry
