Hi Support,

According to SLUUCN4, setting the CBM bit in the Balancing Configuration Register adjusts the balancing function so that each cell is bypassed in sequence, rather than simultaneously.

Is this the only impact of this bit and why would we want to limit balancing to one cell at a time?

Hello Jeremy,

The CBM bit is for external cell balancing, it is not intended for use with internal balancing. External balancing will have higher balancing currents, we do not want to balance multiple parallel cells since this could cause cell voltage measurement issues. That is why we allow longer periods when using external balancing to allow voltages to relax for proper voltage readings.
