BQ40Z80: BQ40Z80 SHUTDOWN Methods

Part Number: BQ40Z80

Hi,

We are investigating the SHUTDOWN methods of BQ40Z80.

Based on the TRM, there are 4 ways to shut down the BQ40Z80 as below.

6.4.1 VOLTAGE BASED SHUTDOWN
6.4.2 ManufacturerAccess() MAC Shutdown
6.4.3 Time Based Shutdown
6.4.4 Power Save Shutdown

 1. Is there any other way to shut down the BQ40Z80 other than these 4 ways?

 2. Is there a way to shut down the BQ40Z80 from SLEEP mode when the SOC is < certain value (e.g. < 20%)?

 3. For the time based SHUTDOWN, is there any workaround to extend the timer (Auto Ship Time)?  The max value we can have is 65,535 min.

 Thanks,

Kim

  • Hello Kim,

    The shutdown methods outlined in the TRM are the only methods. The only other possible way is by disconnecting the cells (or just power to the gauge) and re-connecting them. The gauge will be in shutdown until voltage on PACK pin is applied.

    There is no dedicated gauge feature for RSOC based shutdown, it would have to be implemented on the host side and using the shutdown command.

    No, unfortunately that is the longest Auto Ship Time.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller
