BQ25504: Energy harvesting

Part Number: BQ25504
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TINA-TI, , LM66200, LM66200EVM

Hi Team,

Can you please help us with our customer's inquiry below.

I just bought the BQ25504 energy harvesting IC and module. I want to use glasses to absorb energy in the head and face area. And I plan to hybridize solar and thermoelectric power sources to charge the CP1654 battery. For this, I need to complete the simulation first. I have used TINA-TI and PSPICE software but can't get the correct results. I have some questions:
To hybridize solar and thermoelectric sources using BQ25504, which method is better?
Does Texas have an IC similar to the LTC4413 for this?
Can BQ25504 charge a 3.7V CP1654 battery?
And how can I change the Cjmcu-25504 module for 3.7V voltage?

Regards,

Danilo

  • Hi Danilo,

To hybridize solar and thermoelectric sources using BQ25504, which method is better?

I believe the dual ideal diode would provide a good solution for this concept. I will update if I find another better solution.

Does Texas have an IC similar to the LTC4413 for this?

TI offers the LM66200 Dual Ideal Diode with automatic switchover.

    Can BQ25504 charge a 3.7V CP1654 battery?

Yes, this should be achievable if the input source can provide sufficient power based on the load.

And how can I change the Cjmcu-25504 module for 3.7V voltage?

This can be achieved by changing the BATOV resistors to a different reference. For 3.7V you can change R3 to 3.8MOhms to achieve this. For the CP1654, which according to the datasheet can be charged up to 4.2V, you may consider changing R3 to 3.1MOhms. It's important to confirm this with the battery provider.

  • Hi Juan,

Our customer has a follow up inquiry below.

I have another question for you:
I plan to use LM66200 or LTC4413 IC for hybridization. But I don't know which one is better.
What is the difference between LM66200 and LTC4413 ICs?
However, it seems that LM66200 has better performance and a more reasonable price.
How can I compare LM66200 with LTC4413 vs 1N5817 Schottky?
Is it suitable for me to use LM66200EVM module to hybridize solar and thermoelectric sources?
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Regards,

    Danilo

  • Hi Danilo,

I recommend creating a new E2E thread with the LM66200 team, unfortunately I'm not familiar with these devices.
