TPS54A20: How to connect AGND and PGND

Part Number: TPS54A20

Hi, TI expert.

I would like to know how to connect AGND and PGND.

The GND is separate for analog and for high current, but in the end they are connected.

Therefore, I would like to ask you to tell me where it is recommended to connect.

Looking at the specification page 20, 7.3.16, it says that VG- should be connected to PGND and AGND, so I think it should be connected.

I'm asking because I didn't understand even after looking at "Layout Recommendation".

best regards.

  • Hello,

It is recommended that you connected AGND, PGND and VG- at a single point on the PCB underneath the IC.

As you can see on the Layout Recommendation (Figure 62) on page 33 of the datasheet, the VG- pin is connected to AGND through a top layer trace, which is connected to PGND also through a top layer trace. These traces need to be on the same layer to connect the three pins.

Additionally, if you look at the TPS54A20 SWIFT Step-Down Converter Evaluation Model User’s Guide, page 14 figure 3.1, you can see that those three pins are connected via a trace. I would recommend also looking at this layout to use as an example for your own.
