PTH12050 inefficient load

I am currently using the PTH12050 to create +5vdc on one of my products, however there is not enough load to run it efficiently.  I only draw a couple hundred mA, where this module is rated at 6A with efficiency rating 93% at 5A/5V.  I have had a few modules burn up.  Any suggestions?

  • The PTH12050WAX when operated at +5Vout  from output  current  of no load to 1 Amp load , the maximum  thermal ambient  temperature limit is 72°C  . The efficiency at 200mA load is about 55% . This assumes the module is soldered into a 4 inch by 4 inch copper  planes.
