I am working on a battery charger based on the BQ24600 with 5-cell Li-poly, our schematic is almost equal to the Typical System Schematic, figure 1 of his datasheet. The only difference is that we set 1A of the maximum current charge and then a 4.7uH 2A inductor. When the uC anable the ACDC who power the charger and put in charging the battery pack, waiting that the Power Good pin goes down and then enabling the CE, the power good start to blink at 24Hz while the STAT is on (then the Stat pin is off) , after a while sometimes it start to charge and the PG goes low permanently.
