LM5117: External VCC does NOT work, Internal VCC is fine

I'm using DAC to provide feedback and control LM5117 output voltage. Load is purely resistive.

From the TI Excel LM5117 simulation tool, using external VCC will reduce the heat disspation of the LM5117 buck. Therefore, I'm using the external VCC in my crrent design as shown below. However, no matter what's the DAC Vout, LM5117 Vout is always 0. I believe that it's due to the external VCC connects to the Vout, and Vout is 0V initially, so the LM5117 will never start operating?

To solve this issue, I decided to use internal VCC (see below schematic, only changed red box region). Then LM5117 has the Vout and Iout now. 

My question is: If I would like to use the external VCC, what's the correct method? Do I have any other issues in my design?
